New Arrivals — Noir Kei Ninomiya
Tokyo designer Kei Ninomiya (formerly a Comme des Garçons designer and patternmaker) started his Comme des Garçons affiliated womenswear line in 2012.
With a colour palette of almost exclusively black, Ninomiya relies on shades, textures and materials to give depth to his designs, employing laser cutting, pleating, hardware and other unique fabrications in aid of this pursuit.
From the spring 2022 season, Comme des Garçons opted to rebrand its Tricot line as Tao, with designer Tao Kurihara remaining at the helm. The collection was a study in creating depth and movement while forgoing the use of color. The designer completes the easy, A-line silhouettes and long lengths with layers of tulle for added volume.
Just Landed — Junya Watanabe
Junya Watanabe, the Japanese designer who originally studied under the tutelage of Comme des Garçons' Rei Kawakubo, debuted his first womenswear collection in Paris in 1993.
Since then, Watanabe has become known for his innovative and experimental style, with each season seeing the designer further explore the possibilities of what can be done with fabric, draping and tailoring.
